Nissan Nismo 370Z starts at less than $40,000

The latest iteration of Nissan’s factory-tuned Z car comes in at just less than $40,000 as it goes on sale Wednesday in the United States.
The 2009 Nismo 370Z starts at $39,850, including a $720 destination charge. The car offers enthusiasts more power, a sport-tuned suspension and aero improvements over the coupe.
The Nismo 370Z was revealed at the New York auto show and offers just three options: Nismo carpeted floor mats ($115), illuminated kick plates ($200) and a carpeted trunk mat ($95). Check all the boxes and the car is $40,260.
The sporty two-door was developed by Nissan’s Specialty Vehicles Group with Autech Japan, which does conversion work for the carmaker.
The output from under the hood grows by 18 hp to 350 hp and 6 lb-ft of torque to 276 lb-ft. This is derived from a 3.7-liter V6, which is fortified with an H-configured exhaust and a modified engine-management system. That unit is paired with a six-speed manual with synchronized downshift rev matching.
The underpinnings are stiffened considerably, and the car rides on wider, five-spoke 19-inch forged aluminum-alloy wheels. Sport brakes and a viscous limited-slip differential are standard.
The styling is modified with an extended nose, special side sills and unique rear fascia. Inside, the car gets Nismo-logo seats with black and red fabric and red stitching and a Nismo tachometer. Each car gets a plaque of authenticity with the serial number and model year.
